Lament

That cry—"How long, O Lord?"—echoes through scripture, especially in the Psalms. It’s a plea of endurance, a longing for justice, for relief, for God’s presence to break through.

Would you like to sit with a specific passage today? Psalm 13 is a powerful one:

Lectio Divina Meditation on Psalm 13

  1. Lectio (Read) – Slowly read the passage:

How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me? (Psalm 13:1-2)

  1. Meditatio (Reflect) – What word or phrase stands out to you? Does "How long?" resonate with where you are now? Sit with that feeling—what is God showing you?
  2. Oratio (Pray) – Bring your heart honestly to God. If you’re weary, tell Him. If you’re waiting, ask Him for patience. If you feel forgotten, ask for His nearness.
  3. Contemplatio (Rest) – Sit in silence for a moment. Even in the waiting, God is present. Let Him hold you in this space.

The psalm doesn’t end in despair. The final verses say:

"But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me." (Psalm 13:5-6)

Even when we don’t see the end, we trust. Even when we cry, "How long?" we lean into His love.

Is there something heavy on your heart today?
